Pet Food Recall

March 21, 2007

This is important if you have pets. Around 90 brands of cat and dog food are being recalled because something in them is causing renal failure and death in cats and dogs. I’m glad I caught Good Morning America on MBC4 this morning because otherwise, I wouldn’t have known about the problem. Hopefully co-ops and The Sultan Center will pull these items off of their shelves. Wishful thinking?

  1. My understanding is that it is all canned food and pouched food – wet food. If you are buying dry food, you are ok.

The scary thing is that they still don’t know exactly what it is in ALL these foods that is causing the problem . . . and pets continue dying. Aarrgh.

(I didn’t recognize your new format, Stinni!)

  2. Wow! That’s alot more than the new channels were reporting originally! Thank god I don’t use any of those brands!!!

    🙂 K

  3. I checked all of my cat and dog food just to make sure. Luckily nothing i didn’t have anything on the list. I can’t believe some of the brands that are on the list though. Eukanuba? That’s a really popular brand. This reminds me of when Diamond dog food was recalled due to a bunch of dogs dying. 😦

  4. There’s a link on my blog taking you to a page which you can select the individual brands and then it will show which batch numbers are known to be affected.

  5. I think we might be on our own with this problem. 2 years ago we bought several trays of rotten eggs from Sultan Center, we took them back, got a refund and they had absolutely no intention of taking the others off the shelves. I bet anything they put the ones we brought back back onto the shelves when we left.

  6. According to Fox News, a chinese man was arrested at China for being behind those poisonous pet foods. Although upon seeing him, he looks like an ordinary factory worker. Naturally, he denies having anything to do with the case.

The suspect of this crime though is that flour pet food makers are adding to their product to make it look more/full.
